Nippon Life Insurance Company (also known as Nissay or Nihon Seimei) is one of the world’s largest life insurance companies and the second largest life insurance company in Japan after Japan Post Insurance. The company has over 12 million policyholders in Japan. It also operates in North America, Europe, Oceania, Asia, and Central and South America. With over 72,000 employees, Nissay has total assets of about US$603 billion (FY 2011). Nippon Life Insurance Company was established on July 4, 1889 and is based in Osaka. In January 2012, A.M. Best affirmed the financial strength rating of A+ (Superior) and issuer credit rating (ICR) of “aa-” of Nippon Life Insurance Company. The outlook for both ratings is stable.
