Canada Life Assurance Company, established in 1847, was the first domestic life insurance company in Canada. In 2003, it joined the Great-West family of companies as a result of Great-West Lifeco’s acquisition of Canada Life Financial Corporation. In 2018, it reported gross premiums written of C$26 billion and total assets under administration of C$313 billion. The company is the leading provider of creditor insurance helping to protect the financial obligations of individuals with mortgages, loans, credit cards, lines of credit or leases. Canada Life Reinsurance operates in the U.S., Canada, Ireland and Barbados. Canada Life, Great-West Life and London Life are members of the Power Financial Corporation.
